In adulthood, nutritional habits solidify. We'll explore how early adulthood sets foundational food choices, and middle adulthood introduces complexities with work, family, and the onset of chronic diseases. Lastly, we'll explore the challenges faced in geriatric nutrition, including the impacts of polypharmacy. Throughout, a recurring theme will be weight management, emphasizing its role in promoting sustained health and activity.

Course Topics

Early Adulthood

By this point in one’s life stage, there are many habits regarding nutrition that have been instilled. Many factors go into the decisions made regarding food and nutrition.

Middle Adulthood

During this stage there are many competing factors for one’s time including children, work, family and social responsibilities. Chronic diseases related to poor nutrition become more prevalent during this time.

Geriatric

As one ages nutritional requirements change as well. Polypharmacy happens often in this population, which is taking multiple medications, some of which may have diet drug interactions.

Weight Management

Throughout the life stage it is important to maintain a healthy body weight. There are several ways to make sure one stays within a healthy range so they can stay active and healthy as they age.
