Practicum

This course is a capstone project in which students are asked to work through a full data science workflow using real-world data. This course exists to prepare students for the kind of work they will do on Data Science teams, and as such also features an emphasis on interviewing for jobs in the space and communicating results to stakeholders.

Course Topics

Note

This course is primarily a capstone project. As such, it features relatively few specific topics and learning objectives.

Interviewing

Data Science jobs often feature a highly specialized style of interviews. Students will learn how these interviews are commonly structured and how to best respond to the kind of questions they will receive.

Stakeholder Management

It is often the role of a Data Scientist to convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders. Doing so requires a mix of technical know-how, confidence, and communication skills. Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills and receive feedback on their effectiveness.

Capstone Project

Students will take a data set and walk through a full data science workflow, from exploratory analysis to development of models models to presentation of findings.
